This is a writing course designed to teach Year 4/5 students the fundamental skills, knowledge, and strategies they need to effectively respond to writing tasks in class and on exams such as NAPLAN, and the Selective Test.
The course is structured around three main text types: narrative, recount, and persuasive/opinion writing, with students working on each type for two weeks before moving on to the next.
Each week's lesson will focus on a writing prompt designed to provide students with an opportunity to practice their skills. The course includes weekly learning materials, writing prompts, and model answers with annotations to guide students in constructing their own responses. Lessons will be fast-paced, engaging, and interactive, beginning with a homework review and ending with an opportunity for students to ask questions.
The course will focus on text structure, language features, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure, as well as creativity and imaginative flair. It will also encourage students to draw on their own life experiences, personalities, and interests in their writing and will cover technical writing skills such as grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
